Jake Attends Two Division 1 Camps

This summer to prepare for his Senior year, Jake focused 100% on improving strength, agility and speed.  Working to recover from a PCL tear halfway through his Junior season, Jake focused on a daily regimin of lifting, Athletic Republic training, speed work and receiver camp. Jake had personal invitations at attend camps from over 15 different D1 football programs. While understanding that full-recovery was paramout, he did choose to attend camp at NIU and University of Minnesota this summer

Choosing to attend NIU camp was a great choice.  Northern Illinois University is near and dear to Jake, as a DeKalb native who grew up attending football games at NIU.  Coach Doeren and staff will be closely watching Jake’s performance on the field at DeKalb High School’s football stadium.

Jake also attended camp at University of Minnesota at the request of Jerry Kill.  Jake had a great exhibition of his skills on the field at U of M and Coach Kill will also be watching this tall Junior as he performs in his final season at DHS.

Jake Carpenter is currently being recruited by NIU, Ball State, Drake University, University of Pennsylvania and Dartmouth.  Many other D1 universities have announced that Jake Carpenter is definitely on their watch list including: University of Minnesota, Indiana University, University of Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa State University, Missouri,  Miami University (Ohio) , Bucknell and more…

Good luck to Jake and the DeKalb Barbs as they begin their season tonight at the DeKalb High School football stadium!

Jake attends Beebe Receiver Camp

This spring Jake has been attending the Don Beebe wide receiver camp, House of Speed. This camp is an intense workout, focusing on exploding off the line, creating separation and of course, great catches.  In this video you’ll see Jake blow past a variety of defensive backs and make some great catches.  Some of the Dbacks are D1 committed athletes headed to Northwestern and Western Michigan.  After camp this is what Don Beebe said about Jake, “Jake is really coming on awesome.  I spoke very highly of Jake to the NIU and WMU scouts the other day and said Jake has some great upside. Just keep working hard and things will happen.”

Miami University and Ball State visits

Jake had a great Junior Day visit at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio on Friday, April 13th.  After tours of the athletic facilities and a meet/greet with Miami’s football staff, he was treated to tour of beautiful Miami’s Campus.  The outstanding legacy of Miami coaches and it’s football program is very impressive indeed.

Jake had the opportunity to view football facilities, campus, etc. at Ball State University the very next morning. Jake’s grandfather was a tail back for Ball State in the late 1950′s, so this visit was near and dear to Jake’s heart.  Another great MAC school!

Jake visits Rice and SMU

Spring Break proved to be the perfect time for Jake to (unofficially) visit the campus and football programs at Rice University in Houston and SMU in Dallas, Texas.  The search for the perfect fit begins.

His teammates followed. Propelled by the effort and energy off the bench provided by Smith and Carpenter, the Barbs got back into a tie for first place in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference with one game left with a dramatic 69-67 win against Rochelle at DeKalb High School.
Extra effort puts Barbs in 1st place in NI Big 12.

Jake’s Reverse fuels the Team (Coach comments)

ssm.daily-chronicle.com

In the link posted above in blue, the DeKalb boys basketball coach Dave Rohlman talks about Jake Carpenter and his role in the victory against Sycamore on Friday at the NIU Convocation Center. Carpenter scored 11 points for the Barbs and helped DeKalb pull away in the second half for its 10th straight victory over Sycamore.
The Daily Chronicle also reported…”Rohlman said a key to the victory was senior guard Brian Sisler finding an open Carpenter on a long pass for a layup.  The execution wasn’t that much of a surprise considering Sisler played quarterback and Carpenter was a wide receiver for the DeKalb football team.  “Brian found him and to be honest, at that point, I think our crowd was like, ‘what happened here?’ It really didn’t have a lot of excitement going on on our part until Sisler found Carpenter on that pass and then Carp has a great reverse finish,” Rohlman said.  “I thought that brought a spark and got us going.”
